Bossy, confident, proud, (egotistical??) lions and lionesses who seem to outnumber the rest of us, I cant live without them. There's my bff (who's quick to tell you she's a july leo, but who's such a leo that i know better than to leave her out of the mention), my sister, my mama, my cousin, my grandaddy, my other sister, my other cousin, and my grandma, if your birthday is in August feel free to join this love train.
Yesterday we celebrated el dia de one of mis favoritoooooos, Kandy, my sister. We had a beach party with lots and lots of delicious food, beverages, love, sand and a bonfire. Now, I'm a bit of a beach snob. The beautiful ice cold Pacific Ocean borders the entire length of my state, and I am lucky enough to live close enough to visit everyday if I liked, but I prefer the warm Atlantic and Caribbean Sea because I'm a brat who, unless I'm getting into that warm, calm ocean water, would prefer to not even bother getting sand in my toes. I do love to sit and stare at the water though away from the sand. That being said, my sister and her family rarely miss an opportunity to got to the beach and they know how to do it! Always roughing it in style with gourmet barbeque and a good time; when they say show up, I do. I could list all the good food we had yesterday but there was SO much. My main contributions were the birthday cake (vegan and lemon as requested by Kandy) which was a total hit (i left out the egg substitute from the recipe), and Bon Appetit's Sambal chicken skewers which was my mama's suggestion and they were gone in a flash. (Side note: you have NO idea how delicious this recipe is, it was my first time, and they will be made again and again. I'm attaching their picture because I don't have my own).
August marks the last month of Summer, the beginning of the new school year, and the changing of the seasons in my world. Fall is the perfect predecessor to Summer and the more grown I become, I find I actually look forward to it. Dare I say it is becoming my favorite time of year? I don't know, I'm reluctant to say, I've been such a staunch Summer fan ALL OF MY LIFE.
Until next time...
